Scalping: The Fastest Path to Consistent Profits

Scalping means taking many small profits throughout the day. It's intense, requires focus, and can be highly profitable when done right.

Best Markets for Scalping

  • Forex — EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY during London/NY overlap
  • Indices — S&P 500 (ES), NASDAQ (NQ) futures
  • High-liquidity pairs — Tight spreads are essential

Core Scalping Setup

Timeframes: 1-minute for execution, 5-minute for trend context Indicators:
  • 8 EMA and 20 EMA (fast moving average crossover)
  • RSI (14) — look for 30-70 range (no overbought/oversold extremes)
  • Volume — should be above average on entry

Entry Rules

Long: 8 EMA crosses above 20 EMA, RSI above 50, price above both EMAs Short: 8 EMA crosses below 20 EMA, RSI below 50, price below both EMAs

Exit Rules

  • Profit target: 5-10 pips (forex) or 2-4 points (indices)
  • Stop loss: 3-5 pips or 1-2 points
  • Hard stop: If price doesn't move in your direction within 30 seconds, exit

Risk Management for Scalping

  • Max 3 trades in a row before a 30-minute break
  • Daily loss limit of 2% — stop trading if hit
  • Risk 0.5% per trade (half your normal risk)
  • Trade only during highest liquidity hours

Scalping is a skill like any other. Practice on demo for 3 months before going live.
