Price Action Trading: How to Read the Market Without Indicators

Price Action Trading

Price action is the purest form of market analysis. No indicators, no lagging signals — just price and what it's telling you.

What You Need

  • A clean candlestick chart
  • Key support/resistance levels
  • Trend analysis (market structure)
  • Candlestick pattern knowledge

That's it. No moving averages, no RSI, no Bollinger Bands.

Core Price Action Concepts

1. Market Structure — HH, HL (uptrend) / LH, LL (downtrend) 2. Support and Resistance — Previous swing highs/lows, round numbers 3. Candlestick Patterns — Pin bars, engulfing, inside bars, doji 4. Supply and Demand — Order blocks where institutions have placed large orders

Simple Price Action Strategy

Setup: Uptrend on daily chart + pullback to key support level Entry Signal: Bullish engulfing or hammer on the 1H chart at the support level Stop Loss: Below the support level or below the signal candle's low Take Profit: Next major resistance level or 1:2 minimum RR

Why It Works

Price action reflects actual market behavior — the real struggle between buyers and sellers. Indicators just average this data.

With practice, you'll start seeing the market differently. Patterns will jump out at you. You won't need indicators anymore.
